In the early 1980s he began to preach through

the book of Ephesians, and because he was an

expositor of the Word, he went through and

unashamedly handled the text as it is given

there. And so that meant that as he came to

chapter 1 of Ephesians, he began to speak

about some of the doctrines of predestination

and election, and that began some rumblings

in the church. Then some months later he

became acquainted with a group of Reformed
